Collection Information:
Blood: Sodium heparin tube (dark green); Adults - 4 ml; Pediatrics -2 to 4 ml; Newborns - 1 to 2 ml
Villi preferred for POC specimens; for tissues, biopsy should be 3 to 4 mm in size (size of pencil eraser); collect sterilely if feasible
Amniotic Fluid: Discard first 2 ml of fluid; then 15 to 25 ml placed into two sterile 15 ml screw top tubes (based on gestational age; presentation)
Buccal: Collect smear on positively charged slides (2 total; 1 for each cheek) [Lab can provide kit]

Special Handling:
Amniotic Fluid: Do NOT centrifuge; maintain at room temperature
Blood: Maintain at room temperature
