Collection:
1. Peripheral blood collected in EDTA or Heparin tube.
2. Bone Marrow specimens collected in Heparin and EDTA.
3. Fine Needle Aspirates, Fresh Tissues and Lymph nodes collected in saline or RPMI should be transported to the laboratory as soon as possible.
4. CSF collected in CSF tubes and should be transported to the laboratory as soon as possible.
5. Other body fluid specimens collected in EDTA tubes.
Storage:
1. Blood and Bone Marrow to be stored at room temperature.
2. Other specimens to be stored at 2-8 C (Refrigeration).
3. Lymph nodes or other tissues should be transported from the operating room to your laboratory in sterile saline or tissue culture media.
4. Specimens for immunophenotyping by flow cytometry should never be placed in fixative.
Special Handling:
1. Do not spin. Blood and Bone Marrow - keep at room temperature. Refrigerate all other specimens.
2. Remote location: Do not spin. Blood and Bone Marrow keep at room temperature. Refrigerate all other samples.
3. Transport to the laboratory as soon as possible.
4. If specimen transport will take greater than 12 hours to reach the laboratory, it should be transported in RPMI on wet ice.
